  • Flexible employer

West Coast Council is currently seeking a new Community Development Officer. In this role you will be responsible for leading, improving and coordinating the practice of community engagement across the organisation. You will be part of the Senior Leadership Team and will provide guidance on community engagement and communication across the organisation. You will also be tasked with implementing Council’s commitments, made to the community in the strategic framework of the West Coast Community Plan 2025, particularly in the areas of Education and Training, Health and Active Lifestyles and community capacity building. The West Coast Council encompasses a large part of Tasmania’s wild West Coast. Our nine townships are set within lush natural surroundings and on historic sites. The West Coast has traditionally had an economy focused on mining, with tourism flourishing in the previous two decades and an increasing aquaculture and renewables industry adding to the economic diversity of the region.

  • Ability to coach and mentor in a community setting
  • Possession of a Current Drivers Licence
  • Eligibility to obtain a Working with Vulnerable People Registration
  • Tertiary or other relevant professional qualifications
  • Knowledge of the unique challenges facing rural and remote Australians

This role will require you to quickly establish yourself as a key contributor to the development of a rich and vibrant community life on the West Coast. Therefore, please be prepared to work and live here to maximise networking opportunity in the most informal of settings. Out-of-hours meetings will be part of your weekly routine so that you can best support our community where and when they need it.

As you will need to travel extensively both within the West Coast and across Tasmania, a vehicle, laptop and mobile phone are also provided.  The position description is below, for questions you can contact Council offices on (03) 6471 4700.  Applications must include a cover letter, current resume (with current referees) and address the selection criteria stated in the position description.   Applications must be received by 5pm Friday 7 June 2019.
