Do you have a passion for economic development, tourism and events? Looking to take that next step into a role that could fast track your career, or a seasoned professional looking to settle into a smaller community that has big plans for the future? If so, then this outstanding opportunity should not be missed.

The West Coast is firmly focused on becoming the best at what we do and we are looking to attract talented people that have the same vision and drive to make that happen.

The West Coast municipality is the gateway to Tasmania's wilderness. Renowned tourist destinations include Strahan, situated on Macquarie Harbour, and the picturesque shack sites of Granville Harbour and Trial Harbour. The inland population centres of Queenstown, Zeehan, Tullah, Rosebery, Gormanston and Linda are all within a short distance from magnificent lakes, rivers, rainforests, dunes and historic sites.

West Coast has traditionally had an economy based on tourism, mining and in recent times a growing aquaculture presence, however the need to diversify our industry base and economic drivers was highlighted during the recent West Coast Community Plan 2025 process.  This community-owned strategic plan identifies a range of strategies that all stakeholders can strive to implement.

Council is taking a leadership role in this process with many new projects waiting to be rolled out in 2018 (including a seminal branding project, Strahan Airport Feasibility Study and a review of our current Sport and Recreation Plan). The new Economic Development & Tourism Coordinator will be the key for these and other important West Coast initiatives and will report directly to the General Manager.

You will provide input to Council regarding economic development, tourism and events initiatives as well as regularly reporting to Council and the community.

Ideally you will have previous experience in a similar role however if you are intelligent, personable and enjoy a challenge Council will consider applicants with a varied skilled base.  For the right person this will be an extremely challenging and rewarding role, with a salary package to be negotiated with the successful candidate.

If you want to be part of an emerging community with a real plan for the next decade and become an integral member of a strong, progressive Council team, contact Council’s General Manager to find out more about the position.

Applications addressing the key selection criteria, including current resume and covering letter should be marked ‘Confidential - Economic Development & Tourism Coordinator’, and be forwarded to the Corporate & Strategic Services Coordinator by Friday 15 December 2017.
