Mayor's Message 9 August 2016

Tonight is Census night. The Census takes a snapshot of Australia by collecting vital information on every person and every household

Data is used to forecast allocation of services, facilities and funding.  It is law for everyone to complete the Census so please take the questions seriously as the information obtained will help many organisations, including West Coast Council, plan for a sustainable future.

Congratulations to those who received awards at the recent Cradle Coast Regional Tourism Awards – particularly the Strahan Beach Tourist Park and the West Coast Wilderness Railway.  It is great to see West Coast businesses recognised for the professional services they offer and the experiences they provide to locals and visitors alike.

West Coasters are being asked to provide their views on the draft Sustainable Murchison Plan. We have been working with the Circular Head, Waratah-Wynyard, Burnie and King Island Council’s to develop the document, which builds on the West Coast Community Plan 2025. The draft plan can be viewed at the Council Office or at www.placespeak.com/murchison2040 with comments to be submitted by 26 August.

Economic Development on the West Coast is pushing ahead, with Council’s Economic Development, Tourism and Events Coordinator Simon Lee presenting an update to Councillors recently.  Simon’s role includes assisting (in confidence) developers and investors where possible and with over forty projects on the go it is great indication of the importance of the Economic Development role at Council and for the West Coast as a region.
