Mayor's Message 22 August 2017

Councillors have received the draft West Coast Aquatic Facilities Strategy recommendations from consultants and will be working through the document and discussing recommendations with consultants today.

It is expected the draft report will be available for public comment later this week.

West Coast community and business leaders are encouraged to become involved in the Education and Training and Health and Active Lifestyles Advisory Committees.  Council is in the process of establishing these committees, a key action from the West Coast Community Plan 2025.  Leaders with an interest in either committee are asked to contact me or Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator.

Discussions are continuing between Council management and Crown Land Services regarding the possible expansion at Macquarie Heads Camping Ground.  Council has also agreed to change its previous resolution regarding the Camping Ground to allow for the potential ballot for site allocation to be dropped if this expansion proceeds and all current permit holders and those on the waiting list are able to be accommodated.  This will ease the minds of those who were concerned about possible removal from the area in the future.

Council continues to build its relationship with the new tourism association, with the General Manger and Acting Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator last week meeting with the association executive to workshop the West Coast Branding Strategy.  This workshop was in anticipation of receipt of funds from the State Government to complete the project.

I recently wrote to Premier Hodgman requesting an update on a variety of matters, including the branding funds, which were discussed at the June Regional Cabinet Meeting.  I am confident that Council will receive feedback from the Government soon as we seek to progress vital projects and initiatives.
