Mayor's Message 28 November 2017

Council has released the draft Annual Report for the 16-17 financial year.

The final report will be presented to Council for adoption at the AGM in December and now is the chance for the public to make submissions to Council regarding any proposed changes etc.  The public consultation period closes Monday, 4 December.

UTAS Centre for Rural Health is inviting West Coast residents aged 50 to 75 years to participate in a study looking at reasons why people may, or may not, screen for bowel cancer.  Anyone who has ever received a National Bowel Cancer Screening Program Kit in the mail is encouraged to participate – whether you used the kit or not.  Individual interviews will be held at the Hub in Queenstown on 12 December. For more information call UTAS 63244025.

A full agenda awaits Councillors at tonight’s monthly meeting, with several applications for financial and in-kind assistance to be considered, along with the West Coast Land Use Planning Strategy.  The meeting will be held from 5pm at the Chambers in Queenstown and as always members of the public are invited to attend.

The Rosebery and Queenstown Swimming Pools are scheduled to open for the 17-18 season this Friday, 1 December.  The past few months Council staff have been working to implement the recommendations adopted by Council as part of the West Coast Aquatic Facilities Strategy.  Some of these, including the temperature-based opening hours, will take some adjusting to by both Council and the public.  Capital work improvements at the Zeehan Pool will start in the New Year.  Roll out of the strategy will be over several years and we hope the public continue to respect and use the great facilities.
