Strahan Footpath Improvement Program

12 March 2015

Two weeks into the Strahan Footpath Improvement Program and work is progressing well, despite some inclement weather conditions.

The Program has been made possible as a result of an existing Council program being enhanced by a substantial State Government grant to employ workers displaced following mine closures.

As a result fourteen people have been employed to work alongside West Coast Council staff to complete the works, which will predominately occur in Reid and Andrew Streets, Strahan.

Windy, showery conditions did not prevent the first concrete pour yesterday in Andrew Street, with works to set out the kerb and channel, access points and footpaths almost complete.

“It’s a great initiative to employ displaced Mt Lyell workers whilst also bringing benefit to the community”, Mayor Phil Vickers said of the program when visiting the work site this week.

Reid Street is proving more challenging with increased traffic and services however the program is on track for completion by the end of April.
