West Coast Dudded

West Coast Dudded

15 March 2016

It has been confirmed that the West Coast has been ripped off in the Federal Government’s NBN rollout to the region.

CEO of the NBN Co, Bill Morrow confirmed this afternoon in the Select Committee on the National Broadband Network that Queenstown is the largest town in Australia to receive satellite NBN – the lowest quality of NBN technologies available.

This confirmation saw Victorian Senator Conroy respond with ‘They’ve been dudded.’

This admission by the NBN Co reiterates concerns raised by the West Coast community at a public forum in Queenstown last week.

Mr Morrow, following intense questioning from Tasmanian Senator Anne Urquhart during the Committee hearing, also ‘absolutely’ committed to visiting the West Coast to talk to the community and West Coast Council about their NBN concerns.

With satellite NBN scheduled to be available on the West Coast by mid-May, West Coast Council continues to lobby – on behalf of their community – for a mix of technologies to be available in the region to ensure diversification of economy can occur without potential investors being turned off by satellite-only connections.
