West Coast Adopts Annual Plan

21 July 2016

West Coast Council by majority adopted their Annual Plan and Budget Estimates for 2016-2017 at their monthly meeting on Tuesday night

The Annual Plan includes an extensive list of actions to be implemented by Council over the next twelve months in accordance with the West Coast Community Plan 2025 and Council’s Strategic Planning Framework.

These actions are directly referenced to the key focus areas of Our People Our Community, Our Economy, Our Infrastructure, Our Environment and Our Partnerships Our Leadership and have been developed following consultation amongst Council’s Senior Leadership Team and Council management and are indicative of the operational priorities across Council departments.

The budget includes an over $630,000 funded through the Roads to Recovery Program and a $500,000 footpath program utilising Council staff and contractors.  The Regatta Point Walkway Bridge in Strahan and Hall Street Bridge at Mountain Heights School Queenstown will also have works completed to improve bridge safety.

Community Housing properties owned by the Council will have renovations totalling $250,000 completed whilst a number of unsafe buildings will be demolished, including bus shelters in Zeehan and structures at the Queenstown Recreation Ground and Queenstown Hockey Ground.

Also approved at the meeting was a waiver of fees for Junior Racquetball in Zeehan, sponsorship of the 2016 Beach to Bay event and allocation of funding for the 2016-2017 Community Assistance Program.  Councillors also voted against providing the requested $3300 to the Bright Ideas Festival, instead opting to provide just over $1300 via in-kind support to the August event.
