Roads to Recovery

What is Roads to Recovery?

Roads to Recovery, or R2R, is an initiative of the Australian Government which aims to support maintenance of the nation’s local road infrastructure assets.

From 2014-15 to 2018-19 the Government will provide $3.2 billion under the Roads to Recovery programme, to be distributed across Australia.  West Coast Council has received an allocation of funding under this program, with works included in our 2017-2018 Capital Works Program. More information on the Roads to Recovery program

Why are we doing R2R?

Roads to Recovery funding allows Council to continue implementing the vision adopted by the West Coast community in the West Coast Community Plan 2025, where accessibility and safety, along with well-planned assets and infrastructure were included as key outcomes.

Our primary objective for the Roads to Recovery Program is to ensure the roads that support our townships are safe for all vehicles.  Our secondary objective is to provide short-term employment to local contractors (in line with Council's new Code for Tenders and Contracts), with Council to employ local businesses where possible to boost the West Coast economy.

Where are we doing R2R?

A report was presented to Council for consideration, detailing the R2R program and proposed roads for inclusion.  Criteria for road selection was mainly based on the guidelines provided by Roads to Recovery, along with safety, connectivity and condition.

Roads approved for the 2017-2018 Roads to Recovery Program:

  • Trial Harbour Road - 500m section
  • Trial Harbour Road - 30m section
  • Trial Harbour Road - 40m section
  • Macquarie Heads Road - 40m section
  • Macquarie Heads Road - 800m section

When will R2R works start?

Works are expected to commence mid-November 2017 with completion in April 2018 weather permitting.  Prior to works commencing any expected road closures or traffic delays will be advertised in The Advocate, on West Coast 7XS, on Council’s website (public notices section) and social media pages.
