Tourism & Economic Development 

Council previously endorsed the West Coast Tourism Strategy, which included numerous recommendations in developing tourism initiatives on the West Coast.  The West Coast Community & Tourism Liaison Officer ensures that Council has relevant, up to date tourism, economic and community development statistics and is proactive in providing active and relevant support and feedback to the West Coast community.

Aims for 2009-2010:

• To work in partnership with government agencies and tourism operator;
• To work with a community group in each town (representing a broad spectrum of the population) and assist them with projects as they arise and provide a conduit to Council;
• To identify sources of funds for specific programs;
• To continue implementation of the West Coast Visitor Information Network;
• To ensure that the Visitor Centre operates within its budget and that staff are recruited and trained to operate the Centre;
• To perpare West Coast tourism literature as required;
• To establish information and booking terminals in Rosebery and Queenstown;
• To identify sources of funds for the further expansion of the centre.

West Coast Visitor Information and Booking Centre

West Coast Council also operates the West Coast Visitor Information and Booking Centre, through which tourism and business operators can promote their services and tourists can book all their holiday requirements.

It is Council's intention to have a fully operational Centre in Strahan with pilot operations in other West Coast towns.
