Regional areas like the West Coast rely heavily on service groups and community organisations to fundraise, offer services and host events.  In all West Coast towns these groups form a large part of the community and are always willing to accept new members and volunteers, so get involved!  For those in need, confidentiality is also very important to community service groups.
