New Web Pages for Beginner Coaches and Officials

Each year many people (parents in particular) find themselves appointed to the position of coach or official of a sporting team - often because no one else would volunteer to do it.

To assist new coaches and officials in their role the Australian Sports Commission, in conjunction with Sport and Recreation Tasmania, have developed a series of new web pages - Tools and Tips for New Coaches and Officials.

These web pages contain practical information and tools aimed at the beginner coach and official.  The pages can be downloaded and printed. There is also information for clubs on ways they can recruit and retain coaches and officials.

The web pages include the following information:

  • information on planning, managing groups, working with parents, managing children's behaviour
  • managing conflict
  • templates for sessions, player attendance, medical history, injury record form, incident reports, season planner
  • activity cards for a range of sports
  • articles and web links
Club Development Network

An initiative aimed at helping sporting clubs throughout Australia.  The Club Development Network provides the following services:

  • a simple online checklist allowing clubs to gauge how they are performing
  • an electronic library allowing clubs to access information on various aspects of running a club.  Resources range from a template for a strategic plan to a fact sheet on running a sausage sizzle
  • regular e-news updates and information on grants
  • eligibility to enter the club e-news competitions
