West Coast Visitor Information Centre

The West Coast Visitors Information Centre (WCVIC) is currently located at 29 The Esplanade, Strahan (opposite the cruise terminals) while its home along the waterfront precinct is refurbished as part of the Strahan Waterfront Precinct Project.  

Since opening in 1992 on the waterfront precinct in Strahan, the West Coast Visitor Information Centre (WCVIC) has welcomed more than two million visitors, with Council taking over operations in 2004.

As an accredited “yellow i” Visitor Information Centres, the WCVIC holds National tourism accreditation and operates under national guidelines which provide benchmarks for service delivery, presentation and management standards.

The WCVIC is an accredited member of the Tasmanian Visitor Information Network (TVIN) and the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania (TICT). 

The most remote “yellow I” Centre in Tasmania, the WCVIC services an average of 70,000 visitors annually. The WCVIC team are local experts who have a real passion to help visitors have a memorable experience by providing access to information and service prior to and during their West Coast experience, including:

  • Local knowledge, tips and recommendations
  • Accommodation, activity and tour bookings
  • Guidance and assistance during events such as road closures and emergencies
  • National Parks passes
  • The regional map, the Guide to Getting Lost
  • Retail items including souvenirs, postcards, products from West Coast makers, and official West Coast Tas and West Coast Tas MTB brand merchandise

Other Visitor Centres

The WCVIC also supports three “white i” visitor information centres who provide local advice and a brochure display of local and Tasmanian accommodation, activity and tours:

  1. The Galley Museum, 1-7 Driffield Street, Queenstown 
  2. West Coast Heritage Centre, 114 Main Street, Zeehan
  3. Rosebery Heritage Centre, 27 Agnes Street, Rosebery
