Local Government Elections

Voting in Tasmanian local government elections is now compulsory.

To check whether you’re enrolled, visit the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (TEC) website.

Who can vote at a local government election?

Anyone who is enrolled on the state electoral roll for an address in the West Coast municipal area, is automatically enrolled for the municipal area as well.

Other people who own or occupy land in the municipal area, or are the nominated representatives of a corporate body that owns or occupies land in the municipal area, are also eligible to enrol, but must lodge an application with the General Manager. This is called the General Managers Roll.

Entry to the General Managers Roll for future West Coast Council local government elections, can be obtained by completing the relevant form below.  Completed forms should be returned to:

Non Resident

You are a Non Resident if:

a) you are not eligible for Tasmanian House of Assembly enrolment and you are a resident of the West Coast municipality; 

or

b) you do not live in the West Coast municipality, but you own or occupy land in the West Coast municipality (if more than one person is named as the owner, each person is entitled to be added)

Corporate Nominee

You are a Corporate Nominee if:

b) you do not live in the West Coast municipality, but you own or occupy land in the West Coast municipality (if more than one person is named as the owner, each person is entitled to be added)

or

c) a corporate body which owns or occupies land in a municipal area and is entitled to nominate one to vote on its behalf at local government elections
