Role of Council

West Coast Council

The West Coast Council serves a municipality of around 4500 people and is governed by nine councillors, including a Mayor and Deputy Mayor, who are elected by the community every four years. West Coast Council has a staff of about 75 people.

The role of Council is to develop budget, strategic and annual plans for the West Coast municipality, while concentrating on approval guidelines and policy formulation.

The General Manager is appointed by Council and provides advice to Council and strong leadership and advocacy for the Council and West Coast community.
