Economic Development on the West Coast

The West Coast Council has a proactive approach to economic development within the West Coast to encourage job growth and a sustainable community.  This involves supporting the attraction of new investment via business, events, visitors and new residents,  Council actively encourages sustainable development within West Coast that will establish or expand business, employment opportunities, or local services, through:

  • Marketing and promotion of the region's location, identity and strengths
  • Identification of development opportunities
  • Planning the required support infrastructure and services
  • Provision of information and advice to potential developers
  • Liaison with business, tourism and development organisations

The Economic Development & Tourism Coordinator works with existing businesses, interested investors and developers to provide guidance and support.  The Coordinator is available to facilitate and coordinate discussions with Council by acting as a primary contact between the various Council services; such as Planning, Building and Environmental Health.  If you have a business idea, or are an existing business seeking to expand, please contact the Coordinator to start the conversation.

Other services provided include:

  • Facilitating development opportunities, including meetings with key Council personnel to discuss proposals
  • Identifying development sites and opportunities
  • Provision of information and advice regarding government (and other) programs and services that may be of assistance
  • Marketing the West Coast as a place of business, ideal to live in and also as a visitor destination
  • Referrals to business assistance and advisory services if required
  • Regular communication with West Coast businesses via e-newsletters
