Flying in the West Coast
The West Coast is an experience when on the ground – but from the air it is truly breathtaking.
West Coast Council owns a registered airport at Strahan, and an unregistered airport in Queenstown, both are used regularly.
Regular passenger transport (RPT) is not available on the West Coast, however companies such as Par Avion offer chartered West Coast experiences.
Airports
The Strahan Airport is situated on Macquarie Heads Road, approximately 3.7 km west of Strahan. Although no RPT operates, flights land a minimum of twice weekly.
As a licenced airports the Strahan Airport is open to public and commercial air traffic and follows strict rules and regulations.

Queenstown Airport
The Queenstown airport is situated off the Lyell Highway, Queenstown and is unregistered.
Anyone wishing to land at Queenstown must contact the West Coast Council’s Manager Infrastructure & Operations prior to landing.
The Queenstown Airport is very scenic with fantastic Instagram-worthy photography opportunities however it is essential that people do not enter the airport property. Whilst not a registered airport, aircraft do land, and it is essential that permission to enter the airport is obtained prior to access.
