A dump point, also called an RV dump station or sanitary dump station, is a facility where caravans and motorhomes can dispose of their waste at reliable and convenient sites. Using designated dump points helps protect the environment and keep our natural areas clean and safe.
There is good availability of dump points across the West Coast, with free, public dump points available at the following locations:
- Queenstown: Batchelor Street (Lyell Highway)
- Zeehan: Packer Street
- Tullah: Central Avenue
- Strahan: 74-76 Harvey Street
- Rosebery: 1 Park Road
- Macquarie Heads Camp Ground: Macquarie Heads Road, Strahan
There is rinse water available at the above dump points however this water is not suitable for drinking. Additionally, some private businesses may also have dump points available for guests.
What to put in a dump point
- Black water: Sewage from the toilet.
- Grey water: Water from the kitchen sink, shower, and bathroom basin.
- Toilet paper: Only toilet paper that dissolves easily.
- Septic-safe chemical additives: Some chemical toilet additives are acceptable, but they must be safe for septic systems.
What to avoid putting in a dump point
- Nappies and sanitary products: These will not break down and will cause blockages.
- Food scraps: These can clog the system.
- Wet wipes and paper towels: These are not biodegradable and will cause blockages.
- Rubbish and plastics: Do not dispose of any other garbage or plastic items.
- Chemicals: Do not use chemicals that are not safe for septic systems.
Tips for using a dump point
- Keep it clean: Rinse the area after you are finished.
- Do not overflow: Do not overfill your waste tank, as this can lead to spills and unpleasant messes.
- Report blockages: If you find a dump point is blocked, report it to the local council or site manager.
