On-street parking and public off-street car parks are available across West Coast towns for the convenience of visitors, workers and residents.
To meet demand for parking during peak periods, there are timed spaces to ensure everyone can access parking within easy walking distance to services and shops. A number of parking zones (e.g. disabled, loading, bus zones) are also in place in our communities, aiming to balance the needs of various users and promote accessibility. Motorists should only use these zones if permitted to do so.
Parking is controlled by Council’s Parking Policy and Parking By-Law. Current parking fees for metered/paid areas are listed below.
In Metered Zones
Strahan & Queenstown Car Park (per hour) | $1.10 | Inc GST |
6 Months Reserved Spot | $682.50 | Inc GST |
12 Months Reserved Spot | $1365.00 | Inc GST |
Paying for parking
There are ticket machines located in the Queenstown and Strahan car parks. The quickest way to pay for parking is via the EasyPark Smartphone App which is used for various parking across Tasmania.
The app also features automatic reminders for you to stop paying for parking when you leave the location so that you never pay for more time than you use. Visit your app store to download the app and set up your account:
Infringements
In busy areas, timed parking helps make sure everyone has a fair chance to access nearby shops, businesses, and services. If a vehicle stays longer than the allowed time, a parking ticket (infringement notice) may be issued. When parking, please check the signs and follow the time limits to avoid a fine.
Ways to Pay
Infringements can be paid to Council over the phone or in person Monday to Friday from 8.30am-5pm. Infringements can also be paid online here.
How long do I have to pay a parking fine?
Within 28 days of the date of the infringement notice you must do one of the following:
- Pay the amount detailed on the notice in full to the West Coast Council, or
- Contact the Council for a variation of payment conditions 03 6471 4700; or
- Apply for a Payment Arrangement, or
- Lodge with the Council an application in writing on the approved form for Withdrawal of the Infringement Notice
Unpaid fines may be sent to the Monetary Penalties Enforcement Service (MPES) and will attract extra fees under the Monetary Penalties Enforcement Act 2005.
