West Coast Council operates heated public swimming pools in Zeehan and Queenstown. The pools are open subject to staff availability from December-March.

Queenstown Swimming Pool
The Esplanade (next to the Sports Stadium)
- 25m pool x 6 lanes, with shallow and deep end (stair entrance)
- Medium pool, shallow depth
- Toddlers pool, with beach and step entries and interactive equipment
- Male and Female changerooms with toilets and showers
Zeehan Swimming Pool
Counsel Street (part of the Gym & Multi-Purpose Centre)
- 25m pool x 5 lanes, with shallow and deep end (stair entrance)
- Toddlers pool, with low step entry, small waterslide and interactive equipment
- Male and Female changerooms with toilets and showers
Extreme Weather Conditions
For the safety of patrons and staff, the Team Leader – Aquatic Facilities may suspend or cancel pool operations immediately during periods of extreme weather. Extreme weather conditions may include storms, hail, lightning and high winds. Pools will reopen once conditions are considered safe and where possible, pools will remain open for scheduled bookings and regular programs during periods of poor weather, following consultation with program coordinators.
Public Holidays & Significant Days
All swimming pools will be closed on the following days;
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
- Boxing Day
- New Year’s Eve
- New Year’s Day
The pools may be open on Australia Day, subject to staff availability.

Pool patrons can pay an entrance fee each visit, or purchase a season ticket. We recommend purchasing a season ticket if intending to visit the pool regularly.
Season tickets can be purchased at the Council Office and Zeehan Council Agency, located at the Zeehan Post Office.
Seasons tickets can be used at both the Queenstown and Zeehan swimming pools.

With limited pool space available it is essential that anyone wishing to hire a pool contact Council as early as possible in the pool season.

*Should other approved out of hours hire be scheduled at the same time, rates will be adjusted accordingly.
Note: Only in exceptional circumstances will full pool hire for exclusive use during public opening hours be permitted, i.e. school carnivals etc should be scheduled to be held outside of public opening hours.
Community Feedback – Pool Opening Hours
In November 2025 the community was invited to complete a survey regarding pool opening hours, with the view that understanding preferred times to use the swimming pools, and adjusting if able, could result in increased patronage to the facilities.
Feedback would be considered in the planning for the 2025-2026 season, in conjunction with staff availability and budget requirements.
