    MAYOR’S SUMMARY JANUARY 2024

    The Ordinary Meeting of Council was held on Tuesday 23 January 2024 in Queenstown.

    The meeting was made available to view via LIVE Stream. The meeting was open to public attendance. There was one person in the gallery, with Council staff also in attendance in the gallery.

    Councillors were all present at the meeting.

    COUNCILLOR RAISED ISSUES AND INFORMATION

    Question without Notice

    Cr McKay

    As we head into the football season, can Council investigate the issues of the closed toilets at the Queenstown Crows Clubrooms, so that they are reopened prior to the start of the season.

    Response

    General Manager advised that the Clubrooms (including the internal toilets) are leased by the Queenstown Crows.

    Is it possible for Council management to investigate the area around the business in the Harold Street Roundabout for safety issues. There is no boundary separating the businesses from the roundabout. There have been several near misses in the area. Can a report be brought back to the table?

    General Manager advised he would take the question on notice.

    Council reviewed the below incoming and outgoing correspondence for the month, with the following actions were determined.

    That Council RESOLVES that the Correspondence, both incoming and outgoing, as presented, be noted.

    CORRESPONDENCE THAT REQUIRED A RESPONSE

    Enviro-Dynamics – West Coast Weed Action Plan Weed Action Fund Grant success

    Advise that Cr Hamer and Cr Jordan would like to be nominated as representatives for the Weed Group.

    Department of State Growth – Andrew / Harvey Street Strahan Roundabout

    General Manager will reply.

    Minister for Aboriginal Affairs – Update on the new Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Protection Act

    Council will write and invite them to attend a workshop to advise further and to provide more information.

    REPORT – MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL COUNT

    Recommendation

    That Council:

    Note this report of the monitoring of mountain bike users of mountain bike trails on the West Coast.

    REPORT – GROWTH & CHANGE – FUNDING ACQUITTALS

    Recommendation

    That Council:

    Note this report and the attached acquittals from Tullah Progress Association and The Unconformity.

    REPORT – REFLECT RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN (RAP)

    Recommendation

    That Council:

    Note and approve the internal amended completion dates for action items.

    Outcome: Carried  

    REPORT – SAFEGUARDING YOUNG CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE

    Recommendation

    That Council:

    1.Adopt, Council policy WCC.024 Safeguarding Children and Young People; and

    2.Continue to advocate, through the Local Government Association of Tasmania, for additional State Government support, to implement recommendation 6.12 from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and for standardised resources to be available for all councils to implement the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act 2023 uniformly.
