West Coast Council communicates information through several communication channels to keep our community informed and to promote the West Coast as a great place to live, work, invest and visit.
Our social media pages serve to provide information on Council initiatives, events, programs, and news. It is a key tool for engaging with the community, facilitating discussions, enquiries, and the exchange of ideas.
We recognise that social media accounts have become a popular way for the community to ask questions, share ideas or raise feedback with us however our social media accounts are monitored infrequently, depending on operational or community needs (for example, during emergency events) and we are unlikely to respond directly to comments on posts.
The best way to ask your question, provide feedback, lodge a request or share ideas is to search our website to see if your question has already been answered, submit a request via our online form, or contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
We trust our community to do the right thing when using social media. We encourage those wanting to engage on our social media channels to get to know our social media house rules, listed below, to create a respectful online environment.
House Rules
- Respect the privacy of yourself and others by not including email addresses, phone numbers or home addresses in public posts or comments.
- Consider if someone might be offended by your comment – harassment, abuse, threats or offensive comments (including emojis), especially regarding race, age, gender, sexuality, political views, religion, or disability, will not be tolerated.
- Don’t post defamatory remarks, or information that is factually inaccurate and may mislead others. We will hide or delete comments that we believe meet these criteria to protect our community.
- Don’t post anything that may constitute spam, such as commercial advertisements, repetitive or irrelevant comments; links to fundraisers, petitions, or other third-party material unless expressly endorsed by West Coast Council.
- West Coast Council social media accounts aren’t to be used for political campaigning. This includes posting from identified campaign pages.
- Any posts or comments that violate these guidelines or are otherwise deemed to be inappropriate by page moderators will be removed, and any person who repeatedly violates these guidelines may be blocked from Council’s social media pages.
- Council may restrict public commenting on any post if it deems appropriate to do so but notes that the community still has an opportunity to engage if they wish with ‘like’ and ‘share’ actions still available.
Please contact Council directly (not via social media) with any queries or concerns.
