COUNCILLOR RAISED ISSUES

Questions on Notice

Cr Evans

As I am now fielding many complaints and inquiries in relation to the dilapidated condition of the fences and surrounds at Hedley Faulls Park, Queenstown.

When do Council plan to commence refurbishments on this central recreation park and what will be the timeframe for completion?

Response:

The General Manager advised that maintenance is scheduled reactively and proactively. Queenstown and Zeehan have a redesign and refurbishment of parks to occur in 2023 which will cost $1.2M via grant funding. Maintenance is currently being focused on those sites that are not marked for refurbishment in the near future and guided by safety requirements. The current budget does not allow for the extra works and Council would need to allocate additional funds if they were to do some maintenance on the Queenstown Park now and would need to decide what area of Council the resources would be relocated from.

Council requested that the General Manager provide costing for visual tidy-up of the fence at Hedley Faulls Park Queenstown and once costed provide to Council for a discussion to decide which area of Council the funding is to be reallocated from.

Cr Evans

Queenstown’s parks and recreation facilities are falling in to embarrassing disrepair.

The heritage significant recreation and camping ground, presents in atrocious condition. The weed growth, accumulating litter, neglected road surface etc etc are not a welcoming sight for tourists and locals alike. Seeking immediate solutions.

Response:

The General Manager advised that design is underway with the consultant visiting site, with Council awaiting the design. The General Manager advised that we do see an increase in weeds at this time of year, especially with teams working to roll out the Capex projects.

Question without Notice

Cr Butterfield

The main streets in some towns have various outbreaks of weeds and look unkept. Can these areas be reviewed, and corrective actions taken to remove he weeds, and a more vigilant approach be taken re: weeds along footpaths in our main streets in our main streets.

Response:

The Mayor advise that Councillors could put in works requests or encourage the community to do the same, as this assist with identifying the issues and assists in having them addressed.

The General Manager said this is important as there is currently no set service levels around this. Service levels allows the General Manager to provide advice to Council and to set a minimum standard of service delivery.
