Mayor's Update- June Council Meeting

  • Public Notice
Published 26th June 2020
Update of the outcomes from the ordinary meeting of Council held on 23 June 2020.

Our most recent Council Meeting was held on 23 June 2020 in Queenstown with the meeting streamed LIVE to the public and with all Councillors attending the meeting in person

PUBLIC QUESTION TIME

Council had one submission from Rosebery resident Matthew Ryan-Sykes, asking if Council intends to phase out recycling and if so when and whether recycling bin collection was to end on the West Coast. The General Manager took the questions on notice and will respond. They also asked if Council would declare a Climate Emergency due to the rise of remissions and temperature across the world and develop a strategy to reduce this, my view is that this is not currently something Council is looking at but should Council feel this topic should be brought to the table it would be considered.

West Coast Council Annual Plan 2020-2021 (Moved Cr Pitt/ Seconded Cr Shea)

Council adopted the Annual Plan 2020-2021. I believe this is the best Annual Plan I have seen for the West Coast in time as Councillor. It sets out clear key performance indicators and will provide a clear pathway forward. I commend General Manager and his staff for the work they have put into producing the document.

Cr Gerrity voted against the Plan, believing that further departmental financial breakdowns were required to be included in the document.
