Next Level Mountain Bike and the West Coast Council are pleased to announce the official launch of the Silver City Mountain Bike Trails at Zeehan on December 10th 2022. The 35 km trail network includes a wide variety of trails, which capitalise on the rugged, quintessentially West Coast landscape and wilderness.
This project has been made possible through the generous financial support of the Australian Federal Government.
The event will include guided trail rides, speeches, and a community BBQ.
West Coast Mayor Shane Pitt says “Zeehan has been an MTB hub for the West Coast since the construction of the Oonah Hill trail and this development will further cement Zeehan on the list of ‘must ride’ destinations around Tasmania. We are excited to deliver the full scope of this project and are sure the trail builders will continue their great work and deliver another bucket list MTB experience on the West Coast.”
Marcelo Cardona from Next Level Mountain Bike says “The Silver City project has been an epic task in planning, logistics and daily operations to be able to work in the vast environment of the West Coast. It is a privilege to bring true adventure to mountain biking in Tasmania”

Project Overview:
The Silver City MTB Trails Project is located in the Mount Heemskirk Regional Reserve, a short distance from the township of Zeehan, Tasmania. The 35km trail network includes 6 interconnected trails which form loop format rides, with the trails increasing in difficulty as they extend further into the reserve. The trails include easy, intermediate and advanced riding options, with the advanced loop offering a bucket-list ascent and descent of the Heemskirk Range.
The trail network capitalises on the various landscapes of the area, with lush rainforest sections, rolling buttongrass plains and rocky alpine terrain. All trails provide riders with stunning views across the West Coast region. The trail network offers a genuine back country adventure riding experience in a quintessential and unique West Coast landscape. Many of the trails take their names from prominent mines that once operated in the trail network area.
The project is part of a larger West Coast Mountain Bike Project, which includes construction of a 35km trail network on Mt Owen at nearby Queenstown (opened December 2021), and planning for a broader suite of riding experiences across the region.
A map of the trail network can be found attached.
