West Coast Cultural Strategy: Community consultation sessions call for public participation

Published 20th March 2023

West Coast residents are invited to have their say on the future of arts and culture in the region, as part of the West Coast Cultural Strategy. The strategy will be created by independent research consultancy, Patternmakers, with facilitation by West Coast Council, The Unconformity and WD Booth Charitable Trust.

The first of its kind for the West Coast, the strategy is intended to provide the general public, artists, audiences, venue owners, festivals, tourism associations, businesses and West Coast Council with a shared vision for sustainable arts and culture in the region.

There are a range of ways to engage with the development of the strategy; discussion groups in March 2023 and May 2023 and other in-person meetings as well as through online and physical surveys. All people who live, work on, or have ties to, the West Coast of lutruwita/Tasmania are invited to contribute to this strategy.

General Manager David Midson says, “we have seen the rise of the West Coast as a place with a reputation for an exciting arts and cultural scene. It has brought diversity to our community and greatly enhanced the West Coast as a place to live and work. This strategy will help us to continue to grow this part of our community and ensure that artistic and cultural activity provides the maximum benefit to our region”.

The project will commence next week, with community discussion groups in Tullah, Zeehan, Rosebery, Strahan and Queenstown.
