Mayor’s Message 01 May 2018

Council is seeking applications for financial assistance from community groups, organisations and/or individuals as part of its Community Assistance program.

The program not only recognises the importance of volunteer organisations, but is also about supporting individual achievements and community projects. Applications for the Community Assistance program is open until 5pm on Friday 25May 2018. Application forms and more information is available from Council, via the website www.westcoast.tas.gov.au, or by phoning 64 714 700.

I wish to invite West Coast residents to provide feedback as part of a Sport and Recreation Review. Consultants Tredwell Management have been appointed to undertake the review, which is funded by Council and supported by a generous donation by Petuna Aquaculture. This review of the West Coast Council Sport and Recreation Plan 2010-2020 will look at the progress already made, while identifying new opportunities or challenges that face residents. Consultation sessions will be held on Monday 14 May at the West Coast Council Chambers, Queenstown from 6pm-7.30pm, on Tuesday 15 May at the Strahan Golf Club from 6pm-7.30pm, on Wednesday 16 May at the Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre from 6pm-7.30pm, on the Thursday 17 May at the Rosebery Community House from 6pm-7.30pm and on Friday 18 May at the Tullah Community Hall  from 6pm-7.30pm. There is also an online survey at  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WestCoastSportandRec which is open until 27 May 2018.

Council is also in the process of undertaking a study into the public parking arrangements available to locals and visitors to our region.  This study aims to capture how our parking is accessed now and how it may change as tourism and industry shape our town’s futures. For more information and to take part please visit www.westcoast.tas.gov.au/parkingstudy
