West Coast Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for appointment to Council’s Health and Active Lifestyle Committee.

This committee will help develop and enhance health and active lifestyle initiatives for the West Coast and make recommendations to Council on these issues in general. This week is the last week to make a submission as part of Council’s 2018-2019 budget process. With submissions closing on Monday (9 April), now is the time to submit your idea to help maintain or improve community assets and benefit the community. As in previous years, any submission will be considered in line with keeping a balanced budget. To make a submission please visit Council’s website, offices or agencies.

Last week I announced the next steps for the Macquarie Head Campground. Council has been working to ensure the long-term sustainability of the campground since April last year and will be undertaking several steps over the next few months to progress on key findings. Since April Council has liaised with existing licence holders, adopted minimum standards for the future operations of the facility, undertaken a comprehensive business plan and worked on a development application for planned expansion of the current facility. Following last week’s meeting Council will now be entering into a new Head Lease agreement being offered by the Crown and looking to proceed with a development application for the campground’s expansion once the entire development is secured. Council has budgeted to borrow up to $350,000 for the expansion project with a State Government grant of $200,000 also committed.
