Mayor's Message 11 April 2017

Council continue to liaise with the NBN Co regarding their rollout on the West Coast.

Currently design work has commenced which will determine the location of nodes for fibre connections and the process for installation.  As part of this design process NBN contractors will be in the region completing surveys and inspections.  We have been advised the construction will commence in the second half of this year.  I encourage residents to go to the NBN Co website, enter your property address and submit your email address to receive updates on installation progress in your area.

A reminder that recent changes to the Building Act has streamlined the approval process in some instances.  However, planning requirements have not changed.  It is essential to ensure that appropriate planning permission, and in some cases Building Permits, are obtained prior to commencing any works.  Council is keen to explain the changes and to avoid any confusion for property owners who may be looking to do building work of any type.  To check if your planned property development can be granted an exemption, or to book in a pre-building session, please contact Council’s Planning and Regulatory Services Department.

The RACT West Coast Experience Loan Fund is still accepting applications.  This fund is a partnership with the state government to provide interest-free loans to eligible businesses on the West Coast.  Businesses can apply for up to $100,000, with no repayments required during the first two years.  This is an opportunity to create economic activity and employment opportunities in the West Coast.  For more details visit the RACT website.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Easter – please take care when travelling and take the time to plan your journey.
