Myself and fellow councillors will be sitting down soon with senior management to determine rollout of the footpath, roads to recovery and reseal programs.

Budget allocations have been set for these programs within the $5m capital works budget for 2017-2018 and potential locations will be assessed against a set criteria to help us identify which footpaths and roads will be upgraded. 

The regional cabinet meeting recently was a success with Councillors discussing a variety of matters with our State Government leaders.  The need for improved transport – both between West Coast communities and to other regions – was discussed in depth.  This is a key issue that came out of the West Coast Community Plan 2025 and keeps underpinning much of the planning Council are doing regarding swimming pools, land use planning and other long term priorities.  Lynchford Road was also discussed, with Cabinet acknowledging they were aware of the situation, with mention of investigations towards a road swap arrangement.

I also thanked the Government for its continued support of the West Coast – through its commitment to CMT and now the Granville Wind Farm, and also for providing funding for the Strahan Airport Feasibility Study and Waste Transfer Master Plan project.  We look forward to receiving responses to our requests and to working closely with the government to deliver projects and initiatives for the West Coast.

Consultants continue to work on the West Coast Aquatic Facilities Strategy – working their way through submissions and data from over 200 surveys that were completed. It is expected that a draft report will be available in August for review before final adoption.
