Mayor’s Message 15 May 2018

A REMINDER that Council is currently seeking residents’ views on the provision of both parking and sport and recreation in our region.

To take part in the parking study or for more information please visit Council’s website at www.westcoast.tas.gov.au/parkingstudy. If you would like to share your views on the Sport and Recreation Review there will be several community consultation sessions this week across the community, with one held in Queenstown last night (Monday 14 May). The other sessions are as follows: tonight (Tuesday 15 May) at the Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre from 6pm-7.30pm, tomorrow (Wednesday 16 May) at the Strahan Golf Club, Strahan from 6pm-7.30pm, Thursday (17 May) at the Rosebery Community House, Rosebery from 6pm-7.30pm and on Friday (18 May) at the Tullah Community Hall, Tullah from 6pm-7.30pm. These and other studies currently underway by Council are very important to only ensure our long-term sustainability, but also to be in the best position to attract external funding from the State and Federal Governments.

HAVE you thought about applying for a grant, but don’t know where to start? The Department of State Growth is hosting a free information session to help build your skills in preparing and winning grants. There’ll also be an opportunity to learn more about Sport and Recreation grants and the Tasmanian Community Fund. The session is suitable for West Coast businesses as well as community and sporting organisations. Come along to the West Coast Council Chambers in Queenstown from 6.15pm on Thursday 31 May. Register your place early by calling Business Tasmania on 1800 440 026 or see Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator for more details. Registration is also available via https://grantinfoqueenstown.eventbrite.com.au. This event is proudly supported by the West Coast Council.
