The Questacon Science Circus is once again visiting the West Coast, based at the Queenstown Memorial Hall today from 4-7pm.

This is a great opportunity for locals of all ages to experience exciting hands-on science exhibits, giving us a reminder (and teaching our youth) that science and technology is all around us.  Tickets are available at the door.

UTAS is hosting Community Skills and Knowledge workshops this week as part of a project developed following the 2016 Bright Ideas Festival.  The project will explore how skills and knowledge aren’t always gained through formal education and training.  We need only look around our communities to see a broad range of skills and knowledge gathered through life experiences – including employment and hobbies.  How we can best use these skills and knowledge amongst our community, identification of skills gaps and investigation of skills/knowledge sharing platforms will be discussed at the workshops.  The workshops are at the Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre today, the Hub in Queenstown tomorrow, and Rosebery Community House Thursday.

THE AUSTRALIAN MASTERS GAMES begin this weekend, with the West Coast represented by individuals participating in sports such as hockey and shooting.  Council, under the Financial & In-Kind Support Policy, is also a proud sponsor of the West Coast Warriors Netball team, represented by players from Queenstown, Strahan and Rosebery.  We wish all our participants the very best.  Council has also partnered with Active Strahan and the local tourism association to host an information booth at the opening ceremony, held on Saturday night as part of the Devonport Food & Wine Festival – a great opportunity to promote our region to the thousands visiting from interstate to be part of the Games.
