It’s great to see the community getting behind the West Coast Aquatic Facility Strategy project
This is a positive step towards a long-term plan for swimming pool operations on the West Coast. The consultants, @leisure, are industry-leaders in recreation planning, specifically aquatic facilities, and have experience with other projects along the North-West Coast. Council acknowledges that improvements needs to be made to how our pools operate, however we are currently restricted by a very tight budget and ageing infrastructure.
To enable residents to gain a fuller understanding of pool operations Council is offering “behind the scenes” tours of the pools – Rosebery at 4pm Thursday, Queenstown 10am Friday and Zeehan 10am Friday. Consultants will also be hosting public meetings across three days – Thursday in Rosebery, Friday in Queenstown and Saturday in Zeehan. By offering the meetings across a few days and times we hope this allows as many West Coasters as possible to make it to a meeting, including those who may need to travel to attend.
With engineers completing thorough inspections of our current facilities, and with all West Coasters encouraged to participate in the project, we look forward to seeing the recommendations in the final strategy.
Council has its monthly meeting tonight from 5pm at the Town Hall in Zeehan. Tonight Councillors will be considering the 2017-2018 Annual Plan and Budget Estimates for adoption. This is the key document which guides Council operations for the next financial year, with the key aims of the Annual Plan based on the outcomes adopted in the West Coast Community Plan 2025. The budget estimates include a comprehensive capital works program, including a continuation of the footpath improvement program.
