The West Coast Walk of Life was once again a success on Saturday with people from across the West Coast heading to the Queenstown Recreation Ground to raise money for and support those with life threatening illnesses.
A fundraiser earlier in the week on the local radio station raised over $9K whilst West Coast Council employee Narelle Poke has committed to shaving her hair this Friday night if $2K is raised. Since 2011 over $70k has been raised which has helped over one hundred West Coast families. The work of this small volunteer organisation is truly outstanding.
Mental health is just as important as our physical health, however many find it difficult to discuss how they’re feeling or know how to approach the topic with a friend or family member who we think may be struggling. The Zeehan Neighbourhood Centre will be hosting an informal conversation on 16 April where attendees can learn about how to talk about suicide safely, where there are resources to help and the importance of listening. Contact the Centre to RSVP and for more details.
I will be meeting with some Strahan business operators on Thursday to discuss the recent implementation of the West Coast Parking By-Law. Whilst the enforcement of the by-law seems to have come as a surprise to some, the by-law has been in place for many years. Issuing of fines where appropriate is part of the process which this Council initially introduced to the community in 2016 when advertising for public submissions regarding the by-law occurred. Consultants have recently been engaged to undertake a study to develop short, medium and long-term plans regarding the provision of parking across the West Coast.
