A reminder that tonight’s Council meeting will be held at the Zeehan Scout Hall from 5pm.
While there is plenty of items on the agenda, there is an opportunity for residents to ask questions, or simply come along to see Council in action. Of course, the Draft Annual Plan and Budget Estimates, will be up for consideration tonight as will several other items that may be of interest. Council plans to have meetings in Rosebery and Strahan later in the year to help ensure we are accessible to the community.
I would like to acknowledge the work of Council’s Works and Operations team who last week undertook a blitz in Queenstown. The activity saw depot staff from across the West Coast coming together to complete a range of tasks in town. This is the second such event in our community, with more planned across the West Coast’s major towns into the future. This is a fantastic initiative that not only sees Council’s work team transferring skills and knowledge, but also helps the community better understand the role of Council. Well done all.
Also, thanks to Mountain Heights student Liam Jensen, who recently provided Council with an update of his journey onboard the STV Windeward Bound. Liam was one of two students from the West Coast who was selected to participate in the 13 May to 21 May Personal Development Voyage. The total cost for this journey was $1390 and Liam received a $500 scholarship from Bluestone and a $600 scholarship from Petuna with the remaining funds $290 from the Mayors Contingency Fund.
