Mayor's Message 27 February 2018

The West Coast election commitments announced by the major political parties in the lead-up to the State election go some way to address key areas that the West Coast community have identified as priority.

Regardless of who wins government, Council will continue to lobby to ensure the voice of the West Coast community is heard to ensure any programs etc are in alignment with what our communities need.

The West Coast Branding Project consultants presented their initial thoughts to Councillors and members of the Economic Development Advisory Committee and local tourism association on Friday.  There was an overwhelming feeling in the room that during their week here For The People had captured the complexities of our communities and environment.  The team will now spend time pulling their ideas together before returning to the West Coast in March to present options on how the new West Coast brand may look.  It’s a very exciting project and thank you to the many people across the West Coast who took the time to attend community meetings, be interviewed and show Bec, Amanda and Jason a glimpse of our wonderful region.

The swimming pool season draws to a close tomorrow.  Councillors have received a lot of positive feedback from the community about the high standard of operations and the friendliness of pool staff.  Congratulations must go to Pool Coordinator Mat Handy for his efforts.  Council staff will undertake a full review of the season and provide a report to Council noting what worked, or what didn’t, regarding the West Coast Aquatic Facilities Strategy.

The February Council meeting is tonight at the Council Chambers from 5pm with members of the public welcome to attend.
