It’s been another busy week on the West Coast and for Council – the monthly Council meeting saw the plan for the swimming pools adopted.

In recognition of the huge task needing to be undertaken to roll-out the proposed changes to how we operate the three swimming pools, @leisure planners have been appointed to roll-out the business plan.  They will soon commence recruitment processes for staffing and programs along with organising key capital works at the Zeehan Pool (including new heating).

Councillors and senior staff toured Stellar Resources facilities in Zeehan last week which included an informative presentation about their processes and goals, and a tour of their core shed.  Over the next few months Councillors will continue to undertake site visits to key industry and sites across the region in order to learn more about key developments and to build stronger partnerships across the West Coast.

Myself and Deputy Mayor Shane Pitt had a productive meeting with Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Jeremy Rockliff on Thursday, followed by positive meetings with West Coast school principals and representatives from the Department of Education, Catholic Education, TasTAFE, UTAS and industry.  Through the Education and Training Advisory Committee Council will work with these stakeholders to reach one of the key outcomes created by the West Coast community in 2025 Community Plan: “innovative educational provision that meets the needs of the region.”  With everyone committed to putting the best interest of our learners first by working together, the West Coast community will have the opportunity to be involved in the process with community sessions to be scheduled.  Certainly an exciting time with a lot of opportunities being presented.
