Expressions of interest are now open for people to run programs and activities at the Rosebery and Queenstown swimming pools this season.

This includes everything from swimming lessons to birthday parties and personal training opportunities and is part of the West Coast Aquatic Facilities Strategy recommendations to encourage more use of our pool facilities.  Sporting clubs, community groups and individuals are all welcome to submit expressions of interest by 8 November.

Weather conditions have created an ideal environment for vegetation growth and it is the responsibility of property owners to remove long grass and other vegetation that can quickly become hazardous.  Where required Council will be issuing abatement notices to owners of properties that are assessed as a hazard.  We ask property owners to play their role in protecting their community by keeping growth down. 

The Duke of Edinburgh Awards will host an information session in Queenstown on 22 November.  The awards are open for people aged 14 to 25 and it is hoped West Coast youth take up the opportunity to participate in this international program.  The program aims to give young people skills, behaviours and attitudes to succeed in life and work, with the opportunity for community groups to become involved.

The annual Beach to Bay fun run (or walk) is on again this weekend, with Council a proud sponsor.  This event is growing every year with both locals and visitors to our region. As well as the fun run, there are also activities along West Strahan Beach for everyone to enjoy.  Call into the West Coast Council information stand where Community Development & Events Officer Vikki Iwanicki will be on hand to provide information about Council services.
