Mayor's Message 5 December 2017

Council has been exploring options for several months regarding the creation of a new access point to the Tullah Cemetery.

Using the old access point is no longer possible as it runs through private land.  Council staff are in discussion with Crown Land Services regarding possible use of a portion of their land to construct a new walkway access track.  We are hopeful of a good outcome for the Tullah community and those visiting wanting to access the site.  Council will consider a detailed report on this matter at the December Council meeting.

We are blessed on the West Coast, despite our small population, to have so many willing to volunteer their time to create events for our community.  December is packed full of activities and events celebrating Christmas – have a look at the Community Calendar  for all the details.

As part of our continued push to reach as many West Coasters as possible Council has introduced a system where people can receive updates about Council activities via SMS.  This could include closure of the pools due to poor weather forecasts, road closures, events and dog registration reminders etc.  To register, call into the Council office.

One of our many capital works projects has been completed, with upgrades to the Zeehan Depot officially opened this morning.  The upgrades include new security fencing and office space for our staff.  The upgrades ensure expensive community assets are secured and employees are working in safe environments, maximising productivity and planning for jobs.  Other major works including stormwater and footpath improvements across the region are progressing well.
