Congratulations to Christine Gray in her appointment as Economic Development & Tourism Coordinator.

Christine will lead a team including the Community Development & Events Officer and staff at the West Coast Visitor Information Centre.  Christine has a strong understanding of the West Coast and is passionate about our region. Having been raised and educated in Queenstown her appointment is a fine example of the career paths West Coast youth can aspire to achieve.

The Cradle Coast Regional Visitor Information Network will be meeting in Zeehan tomorrow.  This brings together representatives from information centres across the north-west and is a great opportunity for those working on the coal-face of the tourism industry to see the West Coast firsthand.

Tomorrow in Zeehan Wesley Mission will be hosting a meeting to discuss the formation of a suicide prevention network on the West Coast.  These networks can build the capacity for communities to develop effective suicide prevention initiatives.  The meeting is at the Town Hall from 7pm.

Final year medical students from the UTAS Rural Clinical School in Burnie will be undertaking 5-week rural placements in Queenstown again throughout 2018, as part of their education and training to become doctors.  Students will spend time in the practice, nursing home and district hospital during their stay. The first student, Edith Lightfoot, arrived this week, with a total of five visiting the West Coast on placement this year.

We are already halfway through the financial year, with the summer months the busiest time for capital works such as road maintenance.  Residents are able to keep up to date with current road closures by regularly checking our Facebook page or by registering to receive SMS alerts.
