The West Coast community has benefited from the completion of the Zeehan Swimming Pool Upgrade Project, following a successful grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF).

The Zeehan Pool was closed for the 2017-2018 season to allow for major upgrades. In this time the existing heating system was replaced with an energy efficient heat pump and the old chemical dosing system was upgraded to a state-of-the-art new system in the 25m lap pool. Additionally, the toddler pool was separated from the 25m lap pool and had a heat pump, dosing system and secondary sanitation added.

With the support of the TCF, West Coast Council (WCC) was able to purchase brand new pool covers, rollers and a mechanical storage system. The addition of these covers reduces evaporation up to 85% which in turn reduces the consumption of power resulting in cost savings. In total, due to these upgrades, the 2018-2019 season produced operational savings of $15,000 taking pressure of ratepayers going forward.

The independent community funding body, Tasmanian Community Fund was established following thee sale of the Trust Bank in 1999 to give back to the community, proceeds from the sale of a community asset. Since that time the TFC has allocated approximately $58.6 million to approximately 1700 state-wide projects.

In line with the West Coast Community Plan 2025 and the WCC Aquatics Strategy and Business Plan, Council will continue to upgrade recreational facilities across the West Coast to promote improved access to recreational and health facilities for the community.
