West Coast Council has installed a defibrillator at its sports stadium in Queenstown, adding to the three already installed around the region by Council last year.

The new defibrillator was purchased by the Queenstown Junior Basketball Association, using funds donated by the partner of Alistair Lucas following his death at the Mt Lyell Mine in 2013.  Jason Clarke, from Copper Mines of Tasmania (Mt. Lyell) also provided integral assistance in the purchase of the defibrillator.

“Alistair was a keen basketballer and long-time member of the Basketball Associations in Queenstown therefore it is fitting we have something at the Stadium to remember him by,” Mayor Phil Vickers said.

The Association will maintain the defibrillator and cover any ongoing costs whilst Council has ensured the device has been registered with Ambulance Tasmania’s Early Access to Defibrillation Program.
