The Tasmanian Government has legislated to replace the current Interim Planning Schemes for each Tasmanian Council with a single, Tasmanian wide, Planning Scheme to manage use and development of land.
The Tasmanian Planning Scheme is made up of two parts:
- The State Planning Provisions, and the
- Local Provisions Schedule
The Local Provisions schedule applies to individual Local Government areas.
The State Planning Provisions have been approved by the Minister for Planning.
The West Coast Local Provisions Schedule, must be read in conjunction with the State Planning Provisions to determine what type of development is allowed in the relevant zone or under each code.
The planning scheme and local provisions can be viewed at the Planning Commission website, or via the links below. An online user guide is also available on the Planning Commission website.
The West Coast is also part of the Cradle Coast Regional Land Use Strategy. The Regional Land Use Strategy (RLUS) sets out a high-level direction for land use and development in the Cradle Coast region. It impacts everything from housing and infrastructure to environmental protection and economic growth.
