The Zeehan Shared Access Improvement Project (known as the Zeehan Pathway Improvement project) aims to create a continuous, safe and accessible shared pathway network connecting key community destinations through Zeehan, from West Coast Village to Silver City Mountain Bike Trailhead.
The project responds to identified deficiencies within the existing pathway network, including narrow and non-compliant pathways, poor drainage, accessibility constraints, trip hazards, vegetation encroachment and gaps in pedestrian and cyclist connectivity. The Communities for Walkability – Zeehan Report, developed in 2022, provided key research and information to support the project and funding application.
The project will deliver upgrades and extensions to shared pathway infrastructure across five sections throughout Zeehan:
- Section A – West Coast Village to Pringles IGA
- Section B – IGA to Zeehan Primary School
- Section C – Zeehan Primary School & Sports Precinct connections
- Section D – Howards Park, Main Street, Town Hall & Study Hub connections
- Section E – Zeehan township to Silver City Mountain Bike Trailhead
The project is expected to deliver several community benefits, including:
- Improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists
- Increased active transport participation
- Enhanced accessibility for people with disabilities, older residents and families
- Improved connectivity between community facilities and services
- Safer school access for students and families
- Enhanced tourism links between the Zeehan township and Silver City Mountain Bike Trails
- Long-term reduction in pathway maintenance requirements through upgraded infrastructure
Following a Request for Quotation process in mid-2026, Johnstone McGee & Gandy (JMG) were appointed to undertake survey coordination, engineering design and construction documentation services for the project. JMG will work with Council to deliver concept design development, detailed engineering design, construction-ready documentation, project management support and comprehensive survey services required to progress the project into its construction phase.
As the project progresses information will be available below.
Section A: West Coast Village to Pringles IGA
Section B: IGA to Zeehan Primary School
Section C: Zeehan Primary School & Sports Precinct connections
Section D: Howards Park, Main Street, Town Hall & Study Hub connections
Section E: Zeehan township to Silver City Mountain Bike Trailhead
