West Coast Council redeveloped the Strahan Playground after it was identified through the West Coast Sport and Recreation Plan and Play Space Asset Management Plan to be at end of life and in need of replacement.

Two options for redevelopment were provided to the community for feedback. The first is to replace the playground where it is, the second is to build a new play environment incorporated with West Strahan Beach.

In August 2022 Council invited feedback from the community on their preferred option, with concept designs available to view.

Following approval by Council and appointment of a contractor, works commenced in 2024, with the existing structure demolished.
