After a week of rain, the predictably unpredictable West Coast weather saw the rain hold off on Sunday 14 September as the community came out in force to celebrate the official openings of Howard’s Park and the Gym & Multi-Purpose Centre (including the swimming pool) in Zeehan.
With Federal Government funding received to undertake both projects, the community welcomed Anne Urquhart MP to make a speech and complete the official ribbon cutting, alongside Mayor Shane Pitt and West Coast Council General Manager Scott Riley.
Approximately 200 people attended the official openings, enjoying the new facilities and learning more about the upgrade projects. Around thirty children also enjoyed duckie fishing at the swimming pool, winning prizes along the way.

- Anglicare & Hippy West Coast – providing kids activities
- Zeehan SES – providing the marquee, first aid, and bunny rabbits for patting
- West Coast Heritage Centre – providing a kids scavenger hunt with prizes
- The Big Z & Carols on Wheels – opening in support of the event
- Mobile Exercise Physiology – providing a gym tour and free class
- Margaret Cullen, and Kevin and Joanne Forward – volunteering throughout the day
