West Coast Council would like to share an important update with the community about how Council services will be delivered in Strahan.

From Monday 3 August, the West Coast Visitor Information Centre will also operate as a Council Service Centre. This expanded role means community members will be able to access a wider range of Council customer service functions directly through the Visitor Centre, alongside the tourism and visitor support already provided there.

Council wishes to sincerely thank the Strahan Post Office for its many years of service as a Council Agency. The Strahan Post Office has supported residents with professionalism, and the support provided has been greatly appreciated by both Council and the local community. Council has notified Strahan Post Office of this change and extends its gratitude to the management and staff for their longstanding support.

What does this change mean for the community?

For Strahan residents, this transition provides an opportunity to complete more Council business locally than was previously possible at the Post Office agency. The new Service Centre will be staffed by members of Council’s Customer Experience team, enabling a broader range of services. Residents will be able to visit the Service Centre to:

  • Make payments for all Council transactions

  • Complete dog registrations

  • Submit forms

  • View Council documents

  • Lodge customer requests

As Visitor Centre staff take on these new responsibilities, there will be a short transition period while they learn Council systems and processes. The Queenstown Customer Experience team will be supporting them throughout this process, and Council asks the community to be patient as staff settle into their expanded role.

Importantly, the Visitor Information Centre will continue operating exactly as it does now. This change simply adds Council customer service capability to the services already available.

Council looks forward to offering this improved access point for the Strahan community from 3 August.
