Pet Microchipping Session – Interested?
Council is investigating holding a pet microchipping session – but we need to know if there is demand within the community.
Why microchip?
- the Dog Control Act 2000 requires dogs over the age of 6 months to be microchipped
- microchips make it easier for pets to be reunited with owners if they become lost or are impounded
From the start of the new financial year Council will enforce the microchipping requirement for dogs, with the possibility of infringements being issued.
To facilitate the best opportunity for the community to meet microchipping requirements, Council is seeking expressions of interest from residents who may wish to microchip their pet.
When? Before the new financial year (1 July)
Cost? This will be confirmed by a provider
Who will be doing the microchipping? A provider has not been confirmed. Council has received quotes from several providers, with a range of prices, availability and types of animals they will microchip. The information received from this expression of interest will help confirm a provider.
What does Council need from residents? If you would like your pets to be microchipped, please let us know the following:
- Type and number of pets (e.g. 1 x dog)
- What town(s) you would be able to travel to
- What day/s of the week you would be available
How do we let Council know we’re interested? Provide us with the above details by:
- calling 6471 4700
- emailing wcc@www.westcoast.tas.gov.au
- completing the online form: https://bit.ly/41RDUop
Expressions of interest should be received by 5pm, Friday 28 March.
