Trans Tasmania MTB Event: 17–19 March 2026

Queenstown is preparing for the arrival of more than 100 riders, crew members and support staff arrive for the 2026 Trans Tasmania Mountain Bike event, running from 17–19 March.

Competitors and organisers are expected to begin arriving on the afternoon of Tuesday, 17 March, with the group based in Queenstown until Thursday, 19 March. Although participants have accommodation and meals provided as part of the event, many are still expected to spend time exploring the town before and after race day.

Local businesses and community members are being encouraged to extend the region’s well‑known West Coast hospitality to visitors. A friendly conversation or a few tips from locals can play a big part in shaping the experience for riders—potentially inspiring future return trips with family and friends.

Residents can also help share news of the event by posting on social media and, where appropriate, sharing photos. Suggested tags include @westcoasttasmtb and @westcoasttas.

Businesses interested in learning more about the mountain bike tourism market can access the West Coast MTB Industry Toolkit.

Trail Closure

As part of the event, the Mt Owen mountain bike trails will be closed to the public on 17 March, with access restricted to registered participants.
