As in previous years, West Coast Council will be selling properties that have three years or more rates outstanding.
The current list, to be auctioned at the Council Chambers in Queenstown at 10am on 24 September, includes properties from Rosebery, Strahan and Zeehan. Property owners have until the auction date to pay the outstanding rates.
Unpaid rates auctions are permitted under the Local Government Act 1993. Prior to including properties on the sale list all efforts are made to contact the ratepayer and arrange payment of the outstanding debt. Council intends to hold unpaid rates auctions regularly as part of its debt collection processes.
