Cat Management Areas

Zeehan Cat Management Area

West Coast Council hereby declares a Cat Management Area in Zeehan under Section 20 of the Cat Management Act 2009 from 1 October 2022 until 30 April 2025

  1. The declared Cat Management Area is bordered by Dodds Street, Main Street and Wilson Street, Zeehan,
    1. Please refer to map.
    2. This area has been identified as a breeding ground for feral and unowned stray cats that create a nuisance and may pose a health risk to residents. There will be no restriction on traffic movement in the declared area.
  2.  Cage style cat traps will be used to capture feral and unowned stray cats.
    1. Traps will be regularly checked.
      Trapping within the declared cat Management Area may occur at any time during the declared period.
    2. Trapped cats will be accessed by Officers authorised under the Cat Management Act 2009.
    3. Any cat found to be domestic or implanted with a microchip will be returned to owners or taken to a Cat Management Facility. Cats determined to be feral will be humanely destroyed.
  3. West Coast Council Animal Control and Compliance Officers will be undertaking the trapping program.
  4. The declaration will be in force from 1 October 2022 until 30 April 2025

Queenstown Cat Management Area

West Coast Council hereby declares a Cat Management Area in Queenstown under Section 20 of the Cat Management Act 2009 from 5 April 2021 until 30 April 2025

  1. The declared Cat Management Area is bordered by Sticht, Orr, Cutten and Bowes Streets Queenstown.
    1. Please refer to map.
    2. This area has been identified as a breeding ground for feral and unowned stray cats that create a nuisance and may pose a health risk to residents. There will be no restriction on traffic movement in the declared area.
  2. Cage style cat traps will be used to capture feral and unowned stray cats.
    1. Traps will be regularly checked.
